Kansas Just Made Fairness the Law. ProLegal Funding Is Here.

A new state law made transparency and non-recourse funding mandatory. We have worked this way from the start, and now we are bringing it to injured Kansans.

As of July 1, 2026, something has changed for injured people in Kansas. For the first time, they have legal access to consumer legal funding, also known as pre-settlement funding, and we are here to provide it.

That date marks the effective date of the Transparency in Consumer Legal Funding Act, the new Kansas law passed unanimously by both chambers of the legislature and signed by Governor Laura Kelly. We have been watching this moment closely, because Kansas didn't just open a door. It built a framework that mirrors everything we believe about how this industry should work.

Here is what most people outside the funding world don't realize: until this law passed, Kansans who were hurt and waiting on a legal claim had almost nowhere to turn. State regulators treated consumer legal funding as a loan, which effectively shut responsible providers out of the state entirely. So a single parent recovering from surgery, watching rent come due while an insurance adjuster dangled a fraction of what her case was worth, had no bridge to get from injury to justice. She had two options. Accept the lowball offer, or fall behind.

The new law changes the math. It affirms in plain terms that consumer legal funding is not a loan. It requires that every agreement be non-recourse, which means if the case does not succeed, the plaintiff owes nothing. It demands plain-language contracts that a person can actually read and understand. It mandates full disclosure of every fee and the maximum a consumer could ever repay. And it gives consumers a window to cancel without penalty.

Read that list again, because if you know ProLegal, it should sound familiar. Non-recourse. Transparent. Plain language. No hidden fees. These are not new rules we are scrambling to meet. They are the principles we built this company on. Kansas simply made them the law.

That is why this expansion means more to us than a new line on a map. When a state writes your values into legislation, it tells you the work you have been doing is the work the moment demands.

So let's be clear about what we are bringing to Kansas, and what we are not.

We do not work through brokers who skim a commission off the top of an advance that is supposed to help an injured person, and we do not take our capital from banks whose interests sit opposite our clients'. Our funding is independent, our pricing is transparent, and our promise is simple. We are on the plaintiff's side from the first phone call to the final check.

Kansas attorneys, this matters for you too. When your client has room to breathe, you have room to litigate. You are not forced to settle early because the rent is overdue. You can hold out for the number the case actually deserves, with a funding partner who understands that your client's recovery and your reputation are not bargaining chips.

This is also a continuation of a story that has been building all year. We recently landed at No. 18 on Inc.'s 2026 Regionals: Pacific list on the back of more than 513% growth, and we were honored as one of Inc.'s Best Workplaces of 2026 in the Legal Industry category. Kansas is one more step in a national and international expansion that is already carrying ProLegal into Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

But behind every ranking and every new market is the same reason we get up in the morning. Somewhere in Kansas right now, there is an injured person being told to take less than they deserve. Now, we get to tell them something different.
